Welcome to Signal Theory Co.

Hi, I’m Anupama Mehrotra—Certified Safety Professional, MBA candidate, and the founder of Signal Theory Co.

I created this space as both a platform and a practice. A place to reflect, write, and think out loud about the complexity of leadership, safety, and systems—and how we make them work better for people.

Why I Built Signal Theory Co.

After almost 15 years in Environmental Health & Safety, I’ve seen how decisions ripple through organizations—sometimes in life-changing ways. I’ve led frontline teams, built programs, responded to crises, and helped leaders navigate high-risk environments. And through it all, I’ve learned that safety isn’t just a set of rules—it’s a reflection of leadership, culture, and clarity.

Now, as I pursue my MBA and deepen my practice in systems thinking, I’m asking bigger questions:

  • What kind of leader do I want to be?

  • How do we move beyond compliance into true accountability?

  • How do we design systems that don’t just reduce harm—but unlock growth?

Signal Theory Co. is where I unpack all of that.

What You’ll Find Here

This isn’t a niche EHS blog or a leadership cliché factory. It’s a journal of ideas from the field, the classroom, and the real-world messiness of organizational life.

You can expect posts on:

  • Human-Centered Safety – how we build systems that protect people, not just processes

  • Systems Thinking in Practice – lessons on complexity, interdependence, and strategy

  • Inclusive Leadership & Culture – exploring trust, power, ethics, and voice

  • Personal Growth – what it means to lead, learn, and evolve in real time

Some posts will be sharp and strategic. Others might be more personal and reflective. But all of them are grounded in this belief:

Good leadership means noticing not just what’s happening—but how it feels, and why that matters.
The signals are always there. But you can’t lead what you don’t acknowledge.

Why “Signal Theory”?

Because in the noise of metrics, incidents, and org charts… we need better ways to see what actually matters.

Safety leaders know this instinctively. So do great systems thinkers. The signals are always there—we just have to notice them, interpret them, and act with intention.

This platform is where I follow those signals, connect dots, and try to make sense of the mess in a way that moves us forward.

What’s Ahead

I’ll be publishing insights, reflections, and provocations as I study, lead, and grow in real time. Future posts may explore:

  • The emotional undercurrents of leadership

  • Intersectional safety challenges

  • Real-world applications of systems strategy

  • And the human stories behind organizational change
